finally got the engine loaded into the prius for the trip to the
machine shop. gonna take it tomorow as we're shorthanded
in the office today. gonna be more into it pricewise cause of
the valve job and setting valve lash done by shop.
the machine shop guy was encouraging tho and was telling me that
once the problems are adressed that 3.0s are pretty reliable.
oh and none of that rtv sealing up the front cover and oilpan
cause the kit came with gaskets for everything.

should get my engine back from the machine shop wed afternoon.
i've spent several hours cleaning parts in prepration for instalation.

never again.
by the time i get the flywheel surfaced i'll be about
12 hundo into the machine shop.
but i gotta keep my head up and try to make it into a nice
piece. at least i'll know it's got a good mill under the hood.

put the tag back on the trooper for the winter.

didn't get anything done over the weekend but
last night i washed the block with soap & water--
dryed it off with heat--taped it up and painted it.
also washed the crank and ran the rifle brush thru
the journal oil holes.
so at least it's ready to go back meow.

all i got done last night on the rebuild was install the
freeze plugs and replace the pilot bearing on the crank.
got the bearings in the block ready to install the crank.
used the old cram pieces of newspaper in the hole till its full
and use a dowell the proper size and hammer it in. add
more paper--hammer it in --repete until it pushes the bearing
out from behind. took a while but it worked.

had to pull the heads back off due to not installing the heater
hose and bracket that goes in the valley between the heads.
i'm glad it worked out that way cause the head gaskets are
different for the right and left side and i had em wrong.
really didn't like the gaskets that were shipped with the kit
anyway so it all worked out in the end. i'm back to the point
of installing the intake and timing belt once more.

felt like a complete and udder dumbass when the
hose pieces would not go in after i had installed the heads.
(lots of cussin and cleaning followed)
ashamed to even post up my mistake.
but at least i'm back to where i was a week or so ago.

new gaskets AND head bolts.

saturday it rained and i didn't have my regular helper or robbie
so i hit the thing hard. in a nutshell its 95% ready to drop in.
all i gots left is the backing plate, flywheel and the clutch/pressureplate.
put in a good 5 hours on the thing and it looks good.
glad to be at a good place with it now.

oh and it'll slide in a lot easier if you leave the trans in gear. Rolling Eyes
took us about 15 mins to figure that one out.

on a heavier note.
saturday our club buried one of it's longtime members wife. if any of yall
remember the tanzinia event that the guy brought a subaru to blast around
in--she was the one who got hurt when the subie endoed coming down
stadium drive bout 40 mph.
donna howard was one of mine and anitas best friends. went to her high
school graduation--to her wedding to bobby--watched her raise 3 children
and help bobby run a sucessful used car business.
49 years old and cancer took her out 5 weeks after the doctors found
it. needless to say our club turned out real good for the funeral. 42 patch
holders and their ol ladys--1 prospect --2 probates and their old ladys
and 3 hang arounds from our club. along with members of several other
local clubs. in total there was around 120 bikes in the prosession from
the funeral home to the cemetery. not a dry eye in the place and i'm
still kinda bumed out about it. but ya know it's not all bad cause about
2 weeks before she passed she got right with her maker and i know
that she is dancing barefooted on streets of gold in a refreshed body
now whit no worrys or pain anymore. (she was always losing her
shoes at our partys) RIP MYDONNA. she always put a smile on my face
and i loved her very much.

Thats a bummer Dawg. Cancer is an ugly b*tch. Too many people affected by it and its debatable as to whether the disease or the treatment is worse than the other.

yesterday afternoon i got all the bellhousing bolts in and tight.
exaust hooked up and done along with the starter and everything
under the truck. this afternoon i'll start hooking up all the wiring
and all the underhood stuff.
i got to clean out the fuel line from the filter to the engine bay
and i got an idea. i think i can get some small steel cable long enough to
go thru it and fray the end that i'll pull thru. hopefully it'll break up
any rust thats in the line so i can flush it out with carb cleaner.

it's alive it's alive. thats right we got everything hooked up
and installed cept the radatior. so with a fresh battery charge
we were set to crank. on our first attempt i was one tooth
off on my dist timing and it barely fired but after backing it
down a tooth i bet it didn't turn over two times and set itself
to an idle. i set the timing and turned it off. probly ran less
than a minute total.
so tonight we install the fan-shroud and radatior --give it a
drink of the ol sweet green juce and water--check for leaks
and take her around the block. still got th adjust the clutch
pedal free play but thats no biggie.
pretty happy.
