Dawg, I would put in a piece of lexan. Commercial glass down the road from you has it. That is where I got the windshield for my runner after Nicole's hole got it.

Hey dawg. I was doing the exo on x-jeepers and was going to do a harness bar through the cab and I found some rubber to mount to the outside of the cab and it kept the outside looking clean. Not sure where online I had found them, but the tubing goes through the rubber and a ring that mounts to the cab so you didn't have a hole that would look crazy if it wasn't perfect. Just a thought.

The DAWGtoy2 is looking really good.

Front axle is at my shop completely torn down and ready for paint. Only damage I found was a couple wiper bolts sheared off and one spindle has a brass bushing that is toast. I have a few days to get the knuckles cleaned up since my puppies decided to eat the new parts kits (10,000 pieces of felt and gasket all over my back yard). Ordered new a new kit today, so hopefully I will be ready to put it all back together next weekend.

i found a spindle that should be fine brian.
will be getting bearings soon.

a little seam sealer around the tube will seal
off the penetration just fine. spray foam
between the panels will give it somthing to bond to.
it'll be fine like that.

worked on the b piller bracing--the pieces that join
the b to the c piller over the weekend. modified our
tank brackets to give more mounting clearance.
talked over how to mount the tanks.

got to make a trip west to get the rear window cause
it needs installed before we can do any diagional
bracing on the main hoop. its kinda holding us up
right now but theres a multitude of other odds & ends
to be done so no big deal.

bar on the main hoop (across tha back of the cab).
i get the rear window sunday so next week we can start
on the diagional braces on the main hoop.

blocking what little vision is in the back.

thanks man i am feeling much better.
last night we got the window installed. we used the gasket that
we already had as it was in better shape than jimmys.
piece of cake to install.
we got all the diagonal braces on the rear hoop made and tacked
in and welded the outside of the X.
we are ready to cut the tacks loose and remove it so
we can weld up the inside of the X then install it and weld it in.
all my bracing is .095 1.1/4 od. anything that might contact rocks
is seg 40 (.120) except the main hoops they are seg 80 (.185)
slowly making progress on this beast. it'll prob end up
alittle heavier than i would have liked but i don't want
to end up with a crushed cage like last time.
(not that it'll ever be rolled or nutthin)

last night we got the "spyder" welded on the main hoop.
made the fuel tank mounts and got em tacked on. my tanks
sit behind the cab mounted kinda in a V so they will be easier
to change. theres space inbetween the tanks for us to make
a rack for a cooler. we're making good headway now and the
tubework is moving smoothly. we'll be making the down bars
that connect the main hoop to the rear of the frame soon.

Hopefully I can get the knuckles cleaned up this weekend. I will load everything up and take it to East Gaston High School and work with the auto shop class to reassemble everything.

Do you have a magnetic base dial indicator to check the backlash on your third? Since it is out and conveniently located in a coffee can, now is a perfect time to make sure it is still good.

The gear oil looked good. There were the normal very fine particles on the magnet. Seals were in good shape - no water in the gear oil.

Do you think you can ride by sometime this weekend and check the diff and longs before I start putting it all back together?

yea i'll see what i can do sometime this week.
got the rear down tubes cut bent and installed
over the weekend. also did the bars that connect them to the
rear shock tower. got all the bracing on the main cage welded
up. starting on the front bars this week. when we get the
main part of them in we can pull the engine so i can
start the rebuild.

front end design is kinda funkey imo. robbie insist that we make a radatior
cradle kinda thing to give the rad some protection.
so we're making the uprights
out of 2x3x1/8 tube with a removable piece on top to make engine
removal easier. took 3 hours to make the drivers side one cause we had
to work around the steering box. at least the passenger side is more easy.
we have had lots of discussion on how to run the front bars but i think we have come to an agreement.
this has been the only stickey subject
on the whole rig. i think it'll be ok just not exactly what i had in mind.
i think the rad could have been supported off tabs that run off the forward
bars. now it'll be supported by the uprights and fully protected
by a fabricated grill.
