Guys and gal,

I could really use everyones help and encouragement over the coming months. I have started training for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon (same event Jamie did IIRC, just shorter). After losing my father to cancer and seeing some very close friends in their battle, I have decided that with some friends that share the same sentiment, we will be running the half marathon portion at Disney for their World Marathon Weekend and raising money along the way. Distance running has never been my strong suit so this will be something new for me. Football was all sprints and stuff less than 5k's and mountain biking, well thats a totally different beast.

Thanks in advance and I will be sure to keep updating this with progress as time goes on. Official TeamInTraining stuff starts in about a month.

The biggest thing to distance running is getting to where you can control your breathing. I used to run 7~ miles a couple times a week when I was in college. It usually took me about a mile or so to get my breathing rate under control. Once I got it, the distance was easy.

Now I fawkin hate running.

Hey, I can a little with you. I need a training partner. I have no motivation on my own, but I like running and working out with people, there are just no people around me that will get ob a sched and stick to it. If you want to team up, lmk.

Hmmmm...this might work well considering you work close to me.

So the "official" training with the TEAM group started this past weekend but I was too busy driving 21 hours in a box truck with Kegcrawler to make it. After talking to a few of the coaches, I am a few weeks ahead of the group when it comes to distance and time I am running so it shouldnt be an issue.

I will say, I am glad the temps are slowly dropping lol

The experiences shared by some of the TEAM participants who have fought their battles or have had close family fight their battles with Leukemia and Lymphoma really put things into perspective as to what we are raising our money for.

The link in my original post is my fundraising/blog page. I hope to start updating it soon with my training info and whatnot.

So I am few more weeks into this and the mileage has started to pick up but the training is going well so far. The biggest thing is just keeping myself from overdoing it and getting hurt. Its awesome to be working to achieve a personal goal from all of this but the biggest goal is to hit my fundraising marks for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Here we go...7 miles on Saturday. Over half way in distance. Time to get serious. Re-committment for this event is tomorrow so all the paperwork will be in. Please pass the link in my OP along to friends, family members and colleagues. Its the generous donations from people like yall that make all of the work of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society possible.

Almost a month out from this thing! Did 9.2 miles last week. Got a 10 miler coming up at the end of the week and then we begin tapering it back so I am not dead on race day. Running...still not my thing. But the cause means a hell of a lot to me.

Pass the link to my fundraising page on to family, friends and colleagues if you will. All of the money goes directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

We go off at 530am tomorrow. Race day is finally here. Lauren and I got down here this afternoon around 3, got checked in and got our race packets then had a banquet dinner with all of the Team In Training participants.

Just some notes of what Team in Training accomplished. The 619 participants from our group from the US, Canada and Puerto Rico raised over $2.5Million for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. And that is just for this event alone!

Thanks Robert!

I got back to Durham late last night. Great time and an overall safe trip. 25000 runners for just the half marathon so it was a bit crowded. We felt like we spent the first 7 miles just dodging people so it wore us all out more than we expected since we were in the very last group to leave. Ran just shy of an extra mile from weaving in and out of everyone. Laughing

Saturday afternoon I was fine for the most part, just a little tired and sore. That night though my back started cramping up a good bit and I was walking like the hunchback haha. Sunday we got up and went to the finish line to watch our friends come in that were running the full marathon then we spent the rest of the day in the parks acting like 5 year olds.

Left to come back yesterday morning and they were testing at Daytona so we made a quick stop there to watch the trucks make a few laps.

Overall a cool trip and we saw a lot in the 2 days we were actually in Disney. That place works like a well oiled machine. Its actually spooky how efficient they are because its not the usual clusterfawk that most amusement parks are.

Since I know you fools like pictures...

Lauren and I at about mile 5 in front of the castle in Magic Kingdom. The only pic we stopped for.

The Marathon Expo...kind of had to laugh because I took time off work from the trade show industry to just go to another trade show.

4am before staging in our corrals for the race

Proof I was there doing stuff...haha

Daytona

Good job Chris. My moms brother died in his 20s from leukemia. That's been... 35 plus years ago. Thank you for your efforts.
