Correction. New diff is in my car. I talked to Chase yesterday around lunch and told him I'd like to have it for next weekend. He said he hadn't looked at it yet. My driver just picked it up this morning. That's some damn service right there.

negitve kemosabi--- if it needs repair i'd sure rather do it in
my driveway. a broken axle housing on the trail is no fun. Very Happy

a little welding here turn a few bolts there install spare axle
shaft it'd be good to go.

giggity

jacked it up and took a wire brush to the axle housing just to check the crack. ended up being a crack under the spring perch in a spot i could not
get to with the welder. the front and rear of the crack were welded about 2 years ago and was holding good.. so the little bit of seepage will just have to wait. i've got another housing for it setting in the junkyard.

so really all i ended up doing is screwing the passenger side door skin back to the inner frame----checking all the fluids---checking the histeer arm bolt torque and beatin up on it in the rockpile for about an hour.

i think it's ready for the flats.

blew the rear diff due to a broken axle shaft. it was a twisting break
on the locking mechanasum (sp) side. when it twisted it broke the locking
ring and blew the bearing. broke the carrier girdle and shot pieces
thru the rear of the housing. so looks like i'm in the market for a v6
third--spool--and 5.29 gears.
chase? chase? ecgs whats the damage? heres my card. damn.
got to build up a complete rear axle now. pulled the spare outta tha
junkyard & started cleanin it up / removing all the unused brackets
and armoring it up. gonna plate the bottom, remove the drain plug,
truss the top and use marlin ecoseals. gonna try to make it stronger than
the old one--it was ripping the spring perches outta the tube.

this might be the beginning of the end for the old truck. depends
on how i feel after i get the axle built. and i'm leaning towards building
on the new frame and not using the old one. i'll need to make a call
to budbuilt & spend some with him too.

You know you are doing something right when you blow chunks of your rear diff through the housing with 100hp, thats lettin her eat. Laughing

That R&P has lived a good long life in your truck though Robert. Back in the old days it seems like you would loose a diff every other ride.

yup i'd have to give chase a good thumbs up. that diff has a date of
11/09 on it ---- lasted longer than any of the rest. if the axle hadn't
broken the diff would be fine. shoulda heard that sucker when i unloaded
it. kinda like a rockcrusher sound.

It didn't really make a lot of noise when it went. Sounded like the spring packs clacking. I DID talk him into trying that hill tho Twisted Evil

I gathered that from your last post. Details would include things like mileage, ratio, and what you wanted for it. Very Happy I want an ARB for my truck, (I hate the lock right) but I think I might end up going with an 80 axle with the e-locker. The 80s come with disc brakes too... I think.. Colin? Question
