finally got the crank yesterday. also got the valve cover,
front cover, oil pan and intake back from being cleaned.
when i opened the main bearings i noticed somthing odd
about them--long story short the numbers were right on
the box but the bearings were all wrong. musta been boxed
wrong at the factory cause they were still in their plastic
wrapper. another set is at the parts house waiting for me.
i still got a little done last night tho. primed and painted the oil
pan, gasket matched and ported the intake and got the valve
cover ready to paint.
the crankshaft delay put me behind about 3 days but it'll
come together.
i should get a lot done tonight.

finally got the main bearings sorted out. seems that toyota had
a design change in the block mid year 82. i kept getting bearings for the older block. ends up the block i was using is a newer style.
anywho i got that squared away and layed the crank in to
check oil clearance. ckecked out good. checked crank end play.
checked out good. removed crank -- cleaned plastiguage off
crank and bearings then did final install. spins nice.
thats really all i got done last night. i was wanting get the
pistons installed too but we got a last minute invite to eat
supper with our friends whos wife is a gourmet cook.
can't pass up a chance to eat at jackies kitchen.

tonight i got to go to a wake and pay my respects to a friends
dad who passed wednesday. leave there and go to a batchler (sp)
party at the club. i aint much into the stripper thing tho so i'll
probly just show up, hang out a little then go home and
work a while. i can get more done working than i can lookin
at a couple whores. (just not my thing)

slowly getting there--lookin great.

allrighty then got a lot done this weekend. rods, pistons, timing chain,
guides, timing chain tentioner, front cover, oil pan and head installed.
also got all the external mounts cleaned, primed and painted.
taking the starter and alternater to be rebuilt today.
still got to pick up a water pump. i'll be modifing, installing
the intake tonight
and fabing the egr blockoff plates. getting closer all the time.
i know that don't sound like very much but i take my time and clean
every bolt, every threaded hole is chased with a tap and all
parts are cleaned spotless. steel and cast parts are primed and
painted. aluminum parts are left raw.

steven do you have the tube that was connected to the exaust
manifold? i could use it to make the egr blockoffs for the header.
if you don't have it i might have one in my junk.

your mill looks real good. i'm thinkin that i might fab up a little
stand so i can fire it up and tune it so you don't have to. it'd be
nice to know the timing is set right before you get it.

Robert, I really appreciate all of the small details you have put into the engine. I don't need the engine until it snows, so whatever you want to do with it is fine with me. I wouldn't know where to start to tune it (would like to learn though), so if you have the time and ability then go for it. If you are going to be doing it this coming weekend, let me know and I will come help (and learn) if we are not working.

Is this the tube you need?

thanks for the pix steven. no thats not it. i really don't see it in the picture.
it may have been removed by the po. i would be intrested in seeing
the other side (drivers side) just to check. you might as well pull the
manifold and exaust pipe off as you will have a header going in it's place.
i could use the power steering pump and pulley & any mounts for it too.
if you would like to run down this weekend that'd be fine. bring the
manifold and pump with you. i'm not sure if it'll be ready to fire up or not
and i could use those parts to be closer to complete.

last night i installed the water pump and modified the intake manifold.
you are running a webber carb and the adapter plate is a nice open
design where it bolts to the manifold. the manifold had 2 holes where
the adapter bolted on so i used the gasket to mark out what had to
be removed. cut it out and blended in the radius for a smooth flow.
it looks great. i'm also pluging the unused vacuum and water holes
with brass plugs. the intake is installed and i started fabing up the
egr blockoff plates.

if you want to come down don't forget your computer and card reader
if you have one---we'll get the pix over to your comp and you
are more than welcome to post em up. all i'll be doing other than
working on your engine saturday is mowing my grass and i usually
get that done in the morning. so anytime after 12 would be fine.

egr block offs complete and installed. motor mounts installed.
alt mount installed. picked up the starter and alternater
from being rebuilt. the alternater was in such bad shape it would
have cost more to build it than getting one from napa. so i got
one from napa. installed fuel pump and lines.
got new exaust studs coming from jimmy. rocker arm adjusting
screws should be in at the same time.

I'll get some more pics of the bay once it quits raining. Been raining non-stop since yesterday morning.

I will know on Thursday if we have to work or not, so I will let you know then if I can come down Saturday.

just bring tha whole exaust manifold with you.
ithink it's on there but already modified. i can still use it.
bring your power steering pump and mount too. just take the hoses
loose at the pump.

really not much got done last night. i took the dist completly
apart to let it soak overnight so i can clean it. discovered that
the o ring under the dist cap had a big gap in it allowing
water to get in. it was kinda rusty inside but it'll look like new
when i'm done. other than mounting a couple hoses thats all i
did last night in regards to the engine.

Ready to bring to ya tomorrow. Nothing much came out of the Steering Pump when I pulled off the hoses. Is that bad?

I couldn't get the exhaust tubes off the manifold. Hope it's alright if I bring it like this.

it was good to see you sat before last steven. things have been moving
kinda slow around here. i reasembled the dist--installed new valve adjusting screws--adjusted valves--installed carb-- installed dist.
now i'm all about making a test stand to crank it up. i've made the plate that attaches to my motor stand and am ready to weld it on. i'm waiting on exaust manifold studs and nuts (on the way thanks jim jim). once
i get the header installed i'll be ready to get it off the engine stand--
put on dust plate ,flywheel and bellhousing then i can set it where i
want to weld the plate to my stand. it's coming along fine just kinda been
a crazy week. sunday i got my trailer all squared away and put up.
it was good to see that all the other bearings were in great shape
just needing cleaned and repacked. this time i installed bearing buddys
so each trip i can just give em a shot o grease.
without being long winded i'll try to tell what happened to my cousins
husband yesterday. he was last in line waiting for a stopped school bus.
a vending truck came over the hill too fast sandwitching him in his bug sprayer truck. the impact involved 5 vehicles. when they hit it spun
his truck around drivers door to drivers door to the truck in front of him
and the vending truck ended up at the passenger door. being a bug man he had the gas powered sprayer on the back. the impact caused it
to burst into flames. burned beyond recongnition. the police said he
was dead from the impact not the fire. George Reid Hope. rest in peace.
he was a great guy--had a piece of a jeep & liked to go with us to
housers and ride. 60 years old left a wife and 3 kids. my heart hurt
all day yesterday hearing of this. folks if you love anyone be sure to tell
them so often---i can only imagine what my cousin is going thru.

Wow Dawg. I heard about the wreck last night and saw something about it on one of my friend's facebook that works for Nelon Cole. I dont think I ever met George, but it seems whe had quite a few mutual friends. My prayers are sent up for the family.

This just goes to show that you never know when your time is. All you can do is stay prayed up and live your life the best way possible.

Man Robert, sure hate to hear that buddy. I'll be praying for your family, so sorry for your loss.

If you didnt get my message, here is the wiring info for my truck's coil.

Three wires coming out of the coil:

Pail yellow=ground, this i am sure of
White=12volts
Black=tach signal

The battery is out of my truck right this second so i can't test this for sure, the ground is fact, the other two are a little harder to follow, but worst case if it doesnt work, just switch white and black around.

Hope this helps.

Holy crap, small world Robert. One of the girls involved in that accident was the sister of one of my high school friends. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.

yea it is a small world. the guy killed was the brother to the pres
of the mc i'm a member of. just this year he (pres) has lost his dad,
mom and now brother in a span of 3 months. whats ironic is that another of my club brothers lost his brother to a firey car crash just last month.
47--and selling his corvette--took it for one last spin--hit a tree at over
100 mph. it's been a hard year for us in the clevland county independant
bikers.

getting a little done on the mill too. details man details. test stand
almost complete.

jimmy let me check at our local bolt supply house.
2 1/4 would be perfect. 2 inch might not let the nut
capture itself. thanks for looking tho.
