hey guys, i received the tubing today for X-jeeper's cage today, so i am starting a thread to show some of the work that is going into building his exo cage.

the cage is starting out as a cab only right now, but add more later on, the front is going to go in the fenders right before the doors, x over the top, upper and lower windshield bars, and some extra cab protection, should look nice, not over kill, i am getting measurements now in my bendtech and will hopefully cut and bend some tubing soon,

so last night got some numbers in my bendtech and i decided that it was going to take 9 bends and 5 rotations to make the hoop around the back of the cab..thats right 9 bends and 5 rotations Shock .

background info: the most bends/ rotations on one piece of tubing that i had done was 7 bends and 3 rotations so it was a step up for me to wrap my head around the bendtech and bender to get this right.

after some dinner Wink and some prayer over the tubing/ bender and excessive measureing and remeasureing, i bent it up and it came out very nice, hugs the cab nicely, has enough room for the tubing on the side of the cab to reach it, and over the top, but it tight and no large spaces between the cab, so i am pleased with the outcome, i will post pics this evening when i get home from work,

this was the hardest part of the build, if i don't bend this right, the other tubing will not look uniform on the vechicle,

thanks to my wife for great and steady tube holding Wink

i have alot more to go, but i am really please with how well the hoop came out. that is one of the hardest bends to do. to get that hoop to line up is a pain. but now i can get to it and bend somemore .

that is some pretty gutsy date to finish by. but did alot this evening, after moving the truck in the shop and moving verything around to be able to work indoors b/c of the weather. did the to a piller bars that connect to the hoop. cut into the fenders and will later tie them into the frame after i get the cage tacked together., i'll shutup now

i did a little 15 degree bend rotated 45 degrees right before the A piller bars connect to the hoop to set X-jeeper up for the rear part of the cage, just so it flows better to the rear and looks like 1 smooth piece. should turn out good.

lol, i did! man, we went to it and didn't look back. but man it got cold, stopped notching about 9:30pm and took some pics and got out. dustin (buddy) held tubing like a champ. it came out real nice i think, now that the measurments are in the bend tech for this much, i can now go off of it for the rest of the tubes, it shouldn't be too bad getting the rest of the tubes in, just time.

got alot done, burned in the frame mounts, so when i connected the windshield bars they could be square and even. had to come out on the lower but i think that it fits, close to how the upper looks, so i am happy with how it turned out.

I like the a pillars going into the fenders, looks real good. My only question is the tire not going to get into the frame mount side of the a pillar? Just looks close in the pictures.

if you look at the bottom left of the 6th pic on my last post you can see that its not close at all. just the angle of that shot makes it look closer than it really is.

it is really coming together, got everything welded solid so far and ran out of wire on the last bead, switched out to my emergency 2 lb spool and finished it, i will get more tomorrow and finish up tues night and if something takes some time then i will be working late nights the rest of the week to finish so X-jeeper can show off the new exo...after he puts some paint on it.

I figured you had it under control. Maybe the body mount on the second gen trucks is farther back than on the first gens....My tire almost touches that body mount when its flexed and turned. Looks good though.

we did 9 bars last night , from 6pm-10:30pm. i will burn everything in tonight after church and X-JEEPER can pick it up anytime after. i am very please how it came out. everything is super tight to the cab(how i wanted) flows with the body and is set up for when he wants to finish the bed or go to the front.
