Have you thought about getting a second opinion? If it is Cancer, alot can happen in 6 months.

Robert, i will be praying for you and Anita. Try not to let it woory you too much, we know how tough you are and you do to. You have fought through things that other people would let ruin their lives, and you'll be able to whip this too.

A six month waiting period does seem odd to me too, but then again the Dr. knows more than we do i guess. Maybe you can find some comfort in the fact that he doesnt seem to be chomping at the bit to go in and get this out. Maybe that means the odds of cancer are lesser in his opinion.

You know if you need anything we are all here for you, we'll do whatever you need.

Love you buddy.

thanks guys.
this won't keep me down if i can help it.
he (doc) saw this mass 6 months ago on a ct scan.
the MRI was a follow up a couple weeks ago.
he took detailed mesurments to compare with the
ones we'll be taking in january. 15mm. seems pretty
big to me but he didn't seem to be too concerned.
one of the oldest urologist in town--vietnam vet and
was the one who found my dads cancer. i fully trust
his judgement. he has the best bedside manners that iv'e
ever experenced. he will spend lots of time talking with
ya--unlike most docs who just try to push ya thru
like cattle.

Sounds good Robert. I would stick with the Dr if you like him and he is nice. Most Dr. do treat people like cattle.

Im sure you will kick this thing Robert. I know you got things taken care of down your way, but remember your second family here will do what we can to help if needed.

Robert you are in mine and Amanda's prayers. I think I need to say a few things here, since I work at a Cancer imaging center. First, when people have abnormal scans of the kidneys (ie xrays, CT scans), it is very difficult to distinguish between cysts and malignancy. Many people have renal cysts and never even know they are there. The normal way to definitely distinguish between cystic lesions or malignant lesions is to do a biopsy. However, since the kidneys are so vascular, you can't biopsy kidneys without causing severe bleeding. Therefore, most physicians will follow these lesions with CT scans in 6 month intervals to see if they change in size/shape. If it does, then they may feel the biopsy is the next best step. However, if the lesion remains stable, they will lean to cyst or poly-cystic (multiple renal cysts) diagnosis. I have many patients who have cystic renal lesions, and I see them each time they are scanned. I think the stats are about 15-20% of the general public have them.
The second thing I want to stress is if you develop new symptoms during the next six months. If you start having episodes of new back, abdomen, or pelvis pain, you need to let your doctor know immediately. Or if you see any blood in your urine.
Lastly, I will just say that the statistics are on your side. Most likely it will be a cyst. However, if the worst case scenario happens, surgical removal of the kidney will be curative. I read a statistic the other day that said, " 90-95% of all patients who have had renal cell carcinoma (without it leaving the kidney) are disease free after 5 years. This is amazing compared to other cancer types that I see daily.
Didn't mean to throw so much info your way, but just know I am here if you have any questions. Feel free to call me or Amanda. I know we have only met once, but that doesn't mean we don't care about your well-being. Take care.-----Joe Cell 828-381-one one zero three
