Stock Toyota front axle measurements for comparison:
55.5" wide, 29" spring perch centers, '79-85 Toyota trucks and 4runners, SA Hubs
58.25" wide, 29" spring perch centers, '79-85 Toyota trucks and 4runners, IFS Hubs
63.5" wide, (set up for coil springs) 90-97 FJ80 and FZJ80 Landcruisers
'86-95 IFS front end is about 58.5" wide

My H1's are recentered to 3.5" b.s. and they are just under 10 wide

The cost of built yota axles is cheaper than a built Dana...and they are stronger once you put in long's

Why do you keep putting gear oil in that axle? It's obvious that it doesn't like it. --Max

I've only seen them online. I was thinking about a new front axle for my rig. Maybe an FJ60 with longfields? Instead, I wrote him about his plans for bringing longs to the dana 44.

In reality, I'm not doing anything. I have about 12-15 trips in the buggy so far and I haven't broken an axle yet. I think I can say that a cromo 44 holds up to 37's fairly well.

BTW, here's an expanded chart from what I'd guess is the same thread on Pirate.

No, I was thinking FJ60 and you can get 30 spine longs for them. They are only about 3/8" wider than my waggy 44.

An FJ-80 is about 5" wider and would have hard to fit on the trailer. Hmm, as I think about it more I would drop the wheel spacers so it would only be 3" wider than my current setup. That should fit on the trailer and they're easier to find.

I think everybody is getting their numbers from Bobby Long. It's odd to me that the cromo 44's did so poorly. They were right there with a stock yota hub. I'd like to see him test something other than yukon shafts. I think everybody agrees that the yukon shafts are the worst cromo shafts you can buy. There are a decent number of people on pirate that think stock shafts are better than yukons although I don't agree with them. I will say my dana 44 warn shafts seemed to hold up pretty well and there are other brands higher on the food chain.

Anyway, I wonder where a better dana 44 shaft holds up. They are about the same dimensions as a toy axles so it should do better than his tests are telling us.
