any yall heard of using 3rd gen rears up front?
53" long spring--longer than 1st gens. the centering pin
is 1" towards the rear in compairison to a 1st gen.
gonna have the machine shop drill em 1" forward to over come this.
all that needs drilled is the main and second mil wrap.
probly end up with 4 or 5 leafs in the front. using
just the main for mock up/building so i can build everything
at full bump.
dang i need to start a build thread. if i had one of them smart ass phones
it'd make puttin pix on easier right? not gonna happen.

Not really easier. Just convenient. Sometimes down right irritating to use my smart phone. Use what you have.

well the old truck is under the knife. at this point i'm ready to pull the engine/trans and transfer. last night we got everything pulled/disconnected
to be ready to yank em out tonight. we plan on pulling the axles / springs
wed night.
the old girl looks kinda poorly now. and i'd be lying if i said that i didn't
shed a tear the last time we was coming down the main trail at harlan
and admit i'm having a hard time typing this right now.
i have to keep reminding myself that the new one will be better---longer
---lower---more comfortable----and just as capable.
as i disassemble the thing i see all the little things that took time to get
the way i wanted them. then i realise that i gotta lotta work ahead of me
to get where we wanta be. i'm really glad that i got robbie to help me.
i couldn't get it done without him. kinda keeps me humble.

Somebody close get Dawg one of those drug store disposable cameras and then he can snap pics as he goes ... I'll get them developed and scanned in next time we see him! It'd be nice to document the progress even if its in an 'old fashioned way'. Very Happy

jerked the axle and springs yesterday.
pick up the fronts from the machine shop today.
put the pitiful excuse for a body out to pasture.
working on more tarpage for the gaping holes
where doors should be on the building this afternoon.
if all the tarps keep the wind out we should be pretty
comfortable working. wood heater kicks out the btus.

all we did yesterday was pulled the rear springs off
the axle and move them out of the way.
the rest of the night we worked on the building.
planing on putting up 3 more tarps tonight and
hangin the front main leafs. this weekend we gonna
clean up the axles and have em ready to hang.

this thing will be far from done come tanzania.
i'm hoping that a couple guys will take on rebuilding
my front axle (knuckle rebuild kit already purchased)
and maybe a couple more can reseal the transfer cases.
it really depends on how far along i am and the skill
level of those that are present. heck those things may
be done come feb.

we first built it in 04-05 all i did was the cage at that time.
in late 05 we did the springs and axles. found the marlin
crawler site and thats where i met justin and shawn.
it all went down hill from there. Laughing
so i guess it's 56 years old in dawg years.
damn i wish i could get a rebuild as i'm 56 too.

btw the building mods made a huge improvement.
we can actually work without the wind hitting us and
the heater keeps it comfortable in there.

we should make good headway next week.
