Been fun but the Honda, she gone...picking up the upgrade on Friday.

I wanted to keep it but couldn't justify 2 different 250 2strokes in the garage at one time and the Honda just was not worth sinking a ton of money into to update the suspension. Michael and I started running the Vet C 30+ Class (points class) at the 2nd race of the season and after the most recent one I had to cave and get something newer.

FMF Gnarly Pipe
FMF Powercore II Silencer
Fastway Hand Guards
40 original hours

Got some armor and a larger tank on the way for it so I've gotta get all that stuff installed and shake it down before the race on Sunday.

you'll have a ton of fun on the ktm man.
run it a while and upgrade to a later model.
it's amazing the improvments that have been made
in suspension lately.
not that i have seat time but i do have buddys that

I sure hope so! I was just pissin in the wind trying to make that old Honda competitive. It could do it, but man I was getting numb hands and arm pump way faster than I would have liked. It worked well in the fast, flowing stuff but just did not track well in the rocks. The suspension on this model is a little easier to get dialed in supposedly than the new WP Cone Valve forks on the 12+ models. But, once you get that new cone valve stuff valved and sprung right it is like riding on a cloud o tittays.

Fun busy summer of racing capped off with a nasty crash in VA a few weeks back. Supermanned about 10ft down to flat in 3rd gear since I couldn't see the impending dropoff through the dust. Nothing broken but the helmet and Leatt brace did its job. EVS (Helmet) and Leatt actually stepped up and offered some support (deep discount) for the remaining season and 2017 as well as Forma Boots. It was a great summer though. Got faster and faster and had some good results in both the VA and NC series I am running now. Cracked the top 5 in class in both series and managed a 2nd in a GP style 2 moto format in the hotter, shittier second moto haha.

Been enjoying the last few weeks of downtime before the final 5 races of the season. Shoulder is almost back to 100% from the crash. The bike is at Total Control in Burlington getting the suspension revalved and re-sprung for my weight/ability etc. There are a lot of good suspension tuners in NC, but being 40 minutes away was a no brainer. I also scored a Rekluse auto clutch last night for super cheap from a guy down in Shelby. I am really looking forward to the next couple of races to see if getting the suspension done and a Rekluse is all its cracked up to be.

in all sounds like you have had a pretty good year.
glad that the sholder is coming around. dust sucks about as bad as mud.
whats the reason behind the clutch swap? hare scrambles are fun but kinda hard on the body. good to see ya gettin out there and doing what you enjoy.

Brian Stover was the guy I got the clutch from. HG races the class that I am moving up to next season. I like the Mid East courses, I just wish more were closer to Timberlake. Thats part of the reason I started running one of the VA series. 6 out of 9 races were within 1.5 hours of the house.

Only reason for the clutch swap was because the Rekluse is like cheating. Its pretty much an anti stall. Screw up on a rocky steep climb and it freewheels like you have pulled the clutch in, crack the throttle and it has a slight slip and just takes off like you're using the clutch. You can also ride a gear high in slick stuff and it helps with traction. Much needed when running the SX since its a short ratio gearbox.

We rode Brushy on Saturday. I noticed the benefits of the suspension way more than the auto clutch. Being able to track better through the rocks and ruts and not get bounced off my line was nice. I just need to get used to charging that stuff at a faster pace aka look further ahead lol. Thats where my mistakes came from.

10 days and the new season starts.

Focusing on the first few local GNCC's and then the full Virginia Cross Country Series this year, two of which are AMA East Hare Scrambles so they'll bring in good competition. I've felt stronger on the bike this winter so hopefully this move up to "B" doesn't bite me in the ass.

Wanna see what the heartrate monitor of a 4x defending GNCC champ is?

Unreal. 93% avg of max heart rate for 3 hours.

First GNCC went well. B class is a whole other pace. I hung a turd of a first lap (my biggest weakness in races) because I almost use it like a sight lap on new tracks. Just need to sprint harder off the start. Then laid down 3 more consistent laps. Some sections of the track at Big Buck were like someone dropped arenacross whoops in the middle of the woods. Brutal track. Ended up 45/62 in Sportsman B and 188/691 overall in the AM race. Class is kind of a catch all, but my overall speed was there once I got into the groove.

not a bad finish really. b class is a big jump with many more experenced
riders so don't be too hard on yourself. sounds like you know where your
weak spots are so stay focused on them. stay strong and in shape--work
on the cardio and keep safe.

It was a gut check for sure. Just need to find that throttle stop some more. Very Happy

Gave the ol girl a facelift to start the season. Might be a little muddy tomorrow so I probably should have ordered my new tires instead. Laughing

LOL! I saw that thread title and never opened the thread. It took a lot longer for me to get tagged in it than expected. Laughing
